Wall lights add a decorative touch to plain walls. They soften dark corners, highlight the details you love and create the kind of warm, welcoming light that makes you leave the main light switched off. Perfect in long hallways, beside the bed or tucked into that awkward little nook, they're the finishing touch your room has been waiting for.

Inspired by traditional British designs, our wall lights give a timeless, classic feel to your home. Choose from prismatic, opal and tulip glass shades that look just as at home in country cottages as they do in vintage-inspired cafés or opt for swan arm wall lights that suit period homes beautifully. For a modern, industrial look, our angled and adjustable fixtures pair metal shades with practical and stylish design.

Every wall light is available in a choice of finishes, from antique brass and dark bronze to matte black and polished chrome, making it easy to find the perfect match for your home. The hardest part? Deciding where to put the next one.

Complete your lighting scheme with our pendant lights, designed to pair beautifully with our wall lights.

Bring the same timeless character to your bathroom with our collection of bathroom lights.

FAQs

What types of wall lights does Old School Electric sell?

Our collection includes a wide range of traditional wall lights inspired by classic British design. Choose from elegant swan arm wall lights, clean-lined right angle designs and adjustable wall lights that are perfect for directing light exactly where you need it. Each style is available with a choice of glass or metal shades, alongside flush wall lights that sit neatly against the wall. With finishes including antique brass, dark bronze, polished chrome and matte black, there's a style to suit every home.

What rooms do wall lights look best in?

We like to think our wall lights look great in any room. They're perfect beside the bed as an alternative to bedside lamps, they add warmth and depth to long hallways, and they're ideal for highlighting fireplaces, alcoves and artwork in living rooms. Bathroom wall lights work beautifully either side of a mirror, while a well-placed wall light in a snug or reading corner creates a cosy spot to unwind at the end of the day.

How high should wall lights be placed?

As a general guide, wall lights should be fitted with the centre of the light around 150–170cm from the floor. This usually places the fitting just above eye level, helping to reduce glare while creating an even spread of light. In hallways, wall lights are often spaced around 2.5–3 metres apart, depending on the size of the space. For bedside wall lights, position the fitting so the light falls comfortably for reading while you're sitting up in bed.

Are wall lights enough to light a room on their own?

That depends on the room and how you use it. In smaller spaces such as hallways, cloakrooms or landings, wall lights can often provide all the light you need. In larger rooms, we recommend combining wall lights with pendant lights for overhead lighting and table lamps to create a layered lighting scheme. This gives you the flexibility to brighten the room when you need to or create a relaxed atmosphere in the evening.

Should wall lights and pendant lights match?

They don't have to be identical but choosing lights that share a similar style or finish helps create a balanced look throughout your home, or at least throughout the room. Matching finishes, such as antique brass or polished chrome, can tie a room together beautifully, while mixing different styles in the same material adds personality without feeling mismatched. If you're creating a complete lighting scheme, it's worth thinking about how each light works with the others rather than treating them as individual pieces.
